My name is Clayton. I have known this family for many years now. Teresa is my wife's sister, and I got to know Steve when he and Teresa started dating. I am also Teresa's employer. I have watched this family struggle for many years (believe me, they have had way more than their fair share of challenges). I have watched them overcome so much and care about them very deeply. They have become my heros as I've watched how they've overcome adversity so positively. I hope that through this effort, that they might have the opportunity to overcome the effects of the challenges that have come their way. About a year ago, they applied for the "Extreme Makeover, Home Edition" and we really thought they were good candidates. They have never heard back from them. We realize that those who produce the show can only choose so many families to help, and that there are many thousands of qualified families who apply. Inspired by that T.V. show, I thought I'd take matters into my own hands and see if I could help provide that same experience for them. I care because I feel very close with this particular family, and want to give them a chance to help them deal with the lemons life has dealt them. However, since I've started the Not-For-Profit organization, I will likely continue this effort and help other families in the future. I feel like I've been lucky so far in my life, and haven't had to face this type of challenge. I believe in the goodness of humanity, and feel that through the internet, relying on the common sense of good in others, we can together influence communities for the best. I care also because I know that sometimes I've wondered how I can help others, and not known how. I believe there are many people that have thought that same thing, and hope to provide that opportunity through this effort. There's a really good chance that Steve and Teresa will get a little upset that I started this without their permission, but I'm willing to take that chance. The worst that can happen is that they will get a wheelchair accessible home at the cost of their forever disliking me afterwards. |
